NY Spot Check: The Class by Taryn Toomey

Spot Check: The Class by Taryn Toomey

What: a mat-based practice, through simple, repetitive calisthenics and plyometrics, with guided instruction accompanied by beautiful and at the same time powerful curated music.

Where: NY, Bridgehampton, LA, Miami, Vancouver

Why: my first experience taking The Class was cathartic—in the most beautiful way. I even remember calling my mom right after class was finished lol. You know the feeling when you experience something and connect to it that much, that you can’t wait for the other person to try, and hopefully, they'll get the same experience you did? That’s how I feel every time I want to explain what this method is all about.

The founder, Taryn Toomey, describes her practice as “a music-driven self study through physical condition, creating discomfort in the body to see where the mind goes,” and it totally is. It's challenging, it requires the person to have mental and physical strength. When you put those to work, you get to a place of self rediscovery. You rediscover the strength, grace, and confidence that lives within you but just needed to be shaken, some days you’ll notice that it was probably screaming to be awaken. That’s how I’ve gotten to feel the enlightenment in that room, all while building an incredibly strong, resilient body.

I’m so grateful for the times that I’m able to step into the class, for Taryn Toomey for creating and sharing this beautiful method, and her team for helping it expand.

I guess you really have to try this one for yourself. Cathartic, yes, but you’ll not end up just having had a great workout, you’ll feel empowered, energized, alive, you’ll understand what healing through movement is, as they say: "You will learn tools to empower your life". Bam.
